Grandparents Motorcycle Tour of 2019 Part Three

Monday, July 29.

We said our goodbyes to Interlaken and the Hotel De La Paix in Interlaken.
We loaded up and headed for Saint Moritz Switzerland, this would be a one night stay at the hotel Nola.

We left Interlaken with low clouds but no rain. Wish the sky was clear to see the tall Alps.

Lots of water coming off the hills as we ride out of Interlaken.

The sky begins to clear as we pass Meiringen Switzerland. We are now headed up Gremselpass.

Veronica and I did Grimselpass and Frukapass in mid-September 2017. Big difference in weather, this year we were warm. Two years ago it was cold, we had to wait for Frukapass to be cleared of show. See pictures below for snow coverage in both years.

Henry and Becky Harvey just before the top of Grimselpass.

Veronica, Becky, and Julie at Grimsel

Checking out the rust rocket and passengers.

Our full group. Dereck, Veronica, Bill, John, Julie, Becky, and Henry.

The wedding class of 1978, May, June and July. 41 years later and we are having fun.

From the top of Grimselpass we headed down to the small town of Gletsch.  It was a nice clear day with beautiful views.

The small church in Gletsch.

I am sure the water is way too cold to swim.

Looking back up Grimselpass.

We stopped here for a quick coffee.

Next, we head up Frukapass. This may be my favorite pass because of the view.

Becky getting our picture as we wait for construction.

Looking back to Grimselpass from Frukapass.

The valley between Grimselpass and Frukapass as seen from Belvedere. Gletsch is down there.

Our lunch stop is 50 miles away.

The small posts are not going to stop a motorcycle from going off the cliff.

Going down the pass, Bill & Veronica, John & Julie followed by Dereck.

Cows we did have cows.

Swiss Brown cows. Prized for their rich milk.

Just  Oberalppass and we will be at lunch.  Had lunch at a small hotel restaurant after the passes.

We found parking and headed across the street for lunch.

We dined out front in the sun.

Are we starting to look tired yet?

John's chicken. In Switzerland chicken tastes like it used to taste when I was a kid.

The lunch was great except for the Swiss fee. Everything cost more in Switzerland. Our lunch of a Chief's salad and the soup was $60.00

Not sure what Henry had but he said it was good.
Enjoying the sunshine after a fine lunch.

We rode through several small towns as we head for Julierpass. The roads go right up to the sides of the buildings.

Green postcard views as we start to climb to the pass.

The green disappears as we reach the tree line.

Large smooth and higher speed switchbacks as we approach the top of Julierpass

Just before the top only rocks and short grass. As we start to drop into the St Moritz valley.

One of the small stations where we stopped for gas. That is the main road with pumps on both sides. Veronica and I stopped at this same station in 2017.

Almost down to the valley and our hotel.

Our passengers are glad to be off the bikes after a long day.

We had a nice dinner at the Hotel Nolda. The weather was improving and we took a nice walk to Lake St. Moritzersee.

This river ran right by our hotel. We followed it to the lake.

Veronica and Derick getting pictures as the evening cooled off.

The lake is surrounded by hotels, homes, and shops. St Moritz is like Carmel CA on steroids.

The lights come on as we head back to our hotel and a well earned good nights rest.

Tomorrow we head for Italy and Stelvio Pass.

Part Two.                                    Part Four.
